EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a type of psychotherapy that has proven to be effective for individuals struggling with trauma and attachment issues. It is a body-mind integrated therapy that consists of 8 phases and bilateral stimulation to reprocess memories leading to resolution and transformation. Our brain cannot store memories correctly during a traumatic or distressing event. As a result, related or unrelated stimuli/events in the present moment can cause the brain to experience those stimuli/events as if it were a disturbing past event. Ongoing research on EMDR has proven to be an effective treatment for various other mental health disorders, such as anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), chronic pain, and other distressing life experiences. Here at Rainier Center for Mental Health and Wellness, we have received extensive training to provide EMDR from EMDRIA certified programs to help you improve your mental health and symptoms.

CBT

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a type of evidence-based psychotherapy that focuses on the reciprocal relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and has been proven to be effective for various mental health concerns. Here at Rainier Center for Mental Health and Wellness, we are trained in CBT to help you identify and gain insight into the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, learn coping skills and behavioral techniques, challenge your thinking patterns, reduce your symptoms, and improve your mental health.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT is another type of evidence-based psychotherapy that is considered a modified version of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). DBT is divided into four modules referred to as mindfulness, emotional regulation skills, distress tolerance skills, and interpersonal effectiveness. These modules will help you learn to be more present in your everyday life, learn coping skills to better manage and reduce the intensity of your emotions, and learn effective communication skills to build healthy relationships. It was created by Marsha Linnehan for individuals struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD); however, research has proven DBT to be effective for a variety of mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, and more. Here at Rainier Center for Mental Health and Wellness, we offer intensive DBT therapy to support you through learning and mastering the DBT modules. We provide you with free worksheets to help you learn DBT skills to improve your mental health.

ERP

Exposure and Response Prevention

ERP is a type of CBT that has been proven to be the most effective for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD) and anxiety disorders. The exposure component of ERP refers to exposing yourself to thoughts, images, objects, and situations that make you anxious and/or begin your obsessions. The response prevention component of ERP is about actively making choices not to engage in the compulsive behaviors once the anxiety or obsessions have been activated. Here at Rainier Center for Mental Health and Wellness, we will help you face your fears by learning that obsessions are less severe than predicted, begin to recognize that anxiety and obsessional thoughts are not facts and the thoughts are safe and tolerable, and lastly learn that compulsive rituals are not necessary to feel safe and tolerate your anxiety.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy is another form of psychotherapy that is a modified version of psychoanalysis. Psychodynamic therapy focuses on gaining insight into your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about yourself and the world you live in that contribute to behaviors you engage in daily. Psychodynamic therapy helps you understand and identify patterns and defense mechanisms that have developed from your past to help you cope and contribute to your mental health concerns today. Here at Rainier Center for Mental Health and Wellness, we will help you identify defense mechanisms, patterns, and gain insight into your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs, to better understand yourself and begin to make changes to improve your overall well being.

MI is a form of psychotherapy focusing on your autonomy to make positive changes in your life. MI focuses on asking open ended questions to help you process and explore in a safe space, affirm you for small and big positive changes you’ve made, reflectively listen so you feel heard and understood, and summarize the end of session by reviewing what was discussed and creating an actionable plan to help you work towards making changes. MI has been proven to be effective for anyone struggling with whether or not to change harmful behaviors in their life that are contributing to their mental health concerns.
